Don’t burn plastic and garbage for a few days: Environment Department
KATHMANDU: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2021 – Environmental pollution has been high in various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, since last week.
Last week, the Ministry of Education closed the school for four days. The pollution also affected national and international flights. Even after two weeks, the pollution has not decreased. The Ministry of Health has suggested not to drive vehicles with excessive smoke and not to walk in the morning.
The environment department has also urged the public not to burn garbage and plastic products at the same time.
The environment department had also made an action plan to control pollution. But the department could not do anything as the action plan was not effective, says Indu Bikram Joshi, deputy director general of the environment department.
Joshi said that we should be aware of how deadly this pollution is for us rather than how many cities Kathmandu is among the most polluted cities. Stating that forest fires have started in the country due to the current pollution, Joshi urged everyone to remain vigilant.
Gas and chemicals that can cause brain and heart attacks to the elderly and children are now in the polluted air, Joshi said. Indu Bikram Joshi suggests washing your face with clean water more than 5 times a day after walking outside.
He says, ‘The toxins in the air today are controlled by rinsing with water. So keep washing your face. The problem of burning eyes and nose is solved to some extent. ‘Joshi said that pollution will be reduced with adequate rainfall.
Joshi has informed that the department cannot do anything other than waiting for good weather.
