Voting for the Federation of Nepali Journalists begins
KATHMANDU: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2021 – The election of all the branches, state committees and central committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists has started all over the country simultaneously. Voting has started from 9:30 am across the country.
The election of the Central Committee is going to be held through direct system for the first time after the Federation of Nepali Journalists entered the direct voting system. Voters have been flocking to the polling stations since morning.
A total of 13,122 members are voting for the new leadership in the central committee, provincial committee, district branch and various establishments and associates of the federation. Voting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is said that counting of votes will start on Wednesday after the completion of polling. Senior journalist Kapil Kafle, coordinator of the FNCCI’s Central Election Committee, said that the results of all levels would be announced on March 10 if there were no obstacles.
A total of 97 booths have been scheduled for the election in the respective district branches of 77 districts, in 19 different places of 42 establishments and in Dasharath Stadium of one associate. Kafle said that more than 3,000 office bearers and members would be elected in this election and the presence of women in it would be more than 33 percent. Provision has been made for full inclusion in all the structures of the federation.
There are 152 candidates for 49 posts in the Central Committee. Bipul Pokhrel and Nirmala Sharma along with the panel have nominated for the post of chairperson of the Central Committee while Gajendra Singh Budhathoki has nominated for the post of chairperson. At present, all the committees and branches are elected every three years. The term of any president of the federation has not been repeated so far.
The federation has also formed provincial committees and state councils in line with federalism. Considering the Kathmandu Valley as a separate entity with seven provinces of the country, the federation has 10 state committees and councils, including eight geographical provinces and two non-geographical provinces with branches and associate institutions.
The federation has 77 district branches, 42 establishment branches, 11 associate members, 9 foreign branches, 10 provincial councils, 10 provincial committees, central council and central committee. The central committee of the federation has 49 members while the provincial committee has 21 members. The district and academy branches will be based on the number of members.
The Federation of Nepali Journalists is the common umbrella organization of all Nepali journalists. The main goal, goal and responsibility of the federation is to organize Nepali journalists at home and abroad, provide professional leadership and work for the development of the entire media sector while protecting the rights of working journalists. The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is a continuation of the FNJ formed on Chaith 26, 2012 BS. The federation was transformed into a federation on Jestha 21, 2053 BS.
