Kathmandu is number one among 50 cities in the world in terms of pollution
KATHMANDU: MONDAY, APRIL 5, 2021 – Air pollution has increased again in Kathmandu and other parts of the country. The rains in eastern and central Nepal on Thursday evening reduced the performance a little but increased again on Monday (today).
According to the morning statistics, the highest air pollution is in Dhangadhi. Dhangadhi Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 429. Bharatpur of Chitwan is in the second position. It has an AQI of 398, followed by Lalitpur’s Bhaisepati with an AQI of 359.
Out of 50 cities in the world, Kathmandu is number one in terms of pollution. Myanmar is second, New Delhi, India is third and Dhaka of Bangladesh is fourth. Due to the pollution, the general public has again felt burnt eyes.

According to experts, as AQI increases, so does the risk. Air with an AQI of up to 50 is considered healthy. According to World Health Organization (WHO) standards, AQI should be less than 35.
An AQI of 51 to 100 is considered normal. AQI above 201 is very unhealthy. Above 301 by the WHO is fatal.
