A bomb blast near the Yemeni airport has killed at least 22 people
KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, APRIL 4, 2021 – A bomb blast near the southern city of Yemen has killed at least 22 people. A bomb blast near the northern city of Aden has injured at least 50 people, according to international news agencies. The plane carrying ministers from the newly formed Saudi-backed government landed shortly after the blast. The government said the plane was safe.
Although no one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, Yemen’s Information Minister Mohammed al-Ariani has accused Iran-backed Houthi rebels of involvement in a long-running armed conflict.
Shortly after the attack, another bomb exploded near the presidential palace.
The BBC reports that the second blast took place near the safe haven of Prime Minister Moin Abdulmalik and other Saudi ambassadors to Yemen.
No information has been released about the damage caused by the second blast. Saudi state television showed footage of the aftermath of the blast.
More than 100,000 people have been killed in the conflict in Yemen since 2015.
In 2019, 36 security personnel were killed when Houthi rebels attacked a military parade.
