What makes the ‘vaccine’ from China different from India’s?
KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 2021 – A vaccine against Covid-19 donated by neighboring China has arrived in Kathmandu. A total of 800,000 doses of vaccine produced by Chinese state-owned company Sinovac arrived in Kathmandu today.
The widebody plane had landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 8.30 am carrying vaccinated medical supplies. The Chinese government is about to provide the ‘Verasel’ vaccine against corona to Nepal.
What is different from India?
The vaccine, produced by China’s Sinovac Biotech, can be stored at the same temperature as the Oxford-AstraZeneca cove shield.
The Sinovac vaccine can be stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Jhalak Sharma Gautam said. This vaccine should also be given in two doses. It is said that the first dose should be applied within 21 to 28 days after the first application.
He said the Chinese vaccine was more effective than the Covishield in various tests. However, the vaccine is said to be more expensive than Covishield when purchased.
Earlier, Nepal had received the vaccine under an Indian grant, purchased from India’s Serum Institute of India and under the Covax facility. One million doses of vaccine that Nepal has agreed to buy with the Serum Institute of India are yet to come.
How many have been vaccinated?
According to officials, as of Sunday, 1,790,125 people in Nepal have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine. That is 5.93 percent of the total population of Nepal.
Those who have been vaccinated in the first phase in the first phase will be able to be vaccinated in the second phase from 7 to 11 Baisakh. At present, about five and a half million doses of vaccine are left in Nepal, while one million doses are yet to come from the Serum Institute of India.
