KATHMANDU: MONDAY, MARCH 29, 2021 – The atmosphere in Kathmandu Valley is covered with thick weather on Friday afternoon. The people of the valley are experiencing burning eyes and nose due to the smoke. The flight and landing of the plane from Tribhuvan International Airport was also disrupted due to poor visibility (less than 1000 meters) from 2 pm. Although the landing has been postponed till 6 pm, the flight has resumed due to some improvement in the atmosphere.

Raju Pradhanang, a senior meteorologist, said, “It has not rained for a long time, which has caused dust particles in the atmosphere.” On top of that, the smoke emitted from the big fires in the forests of Parsa, Makwanpur and Chitwan has also been released into the atmosphere. Although we have received reports of forest fires in three places, it is estimated that there are forest fires all over the country at present. This has reduced visibility by adding smoke and dust to the atmosphere. ‘

According to him, in this season of Chait-Baisakh, along with the wind speed, dust and fumes from India also enter Nepal by mixing in the atmosphere.

According to the air quality index of IQ Air, a Swiss organization that measures air pollution, the air quality in the Kathmandu Valley was the weakest in the world on Friday afternoon. The air quality in Kathmandu Valley is 294 IQ on Friday. However, only air below 50 IQ is considered less polluted.

The nine most polluted cities after Kathmandu on Friday are Beijing, Mumbai, Dhaka, Shenyang (China), Incheon (South Korea), Warsaw (Poland), Wuhan (China), Kroko (Poland) and Sofia in Bulgaria.
