KATHMANDU: MONDAY, MARCH 29, 2021 – For the past few days, polluted air has been covering the sky in different parts of the country along the Kathmandu Valley. The air quality in the valley is seen as extremely dangerous to human health.

The World Health Organization says air quality index (AQI) above 300 is fatal. The highest AQI in the Kathmandu Valley on Friday was 314 in Bhaisepati. It is important to be aware of the risk of not only immediate, but also long-term health problems.

Due to the burning and long drought and lack of wind, the particles of pollution created in the atmosphere have accumulated in the atmosphere and the pollution has increased in many places and the transparency has decreased. “In the morning and at night, the surface air is known to rise, but in the afternoon there is a slight gust of wind and the surface air rises,” said Indu Bikram Joshi, a spokesman for the Department of Environment and Environment.

Sunday’s pollution was slightly better than Saturday’s, but Sunday’s pollution is also extremely dangerous to human health. If the pollution does not improve by Monday, the department is preparing to suggest the government to take some steps. A spokesperson of the department, Joshi, said that the department has been preparing to implement the system of push-pull on vehicles and close schools and colleges from Monday.

Foggy Weather: For a few more days
Meteorologist Bibhuti Pokharel said that the stable atmosphere is unlikely to improve in the next two-three days. According to him, air pollution has increased in most of the districts recently due to fire, lack of rain and lack of wind.

In order for the polluted atmosphere to be clean, either rain or wind is needed, but that has not happened yet. Many kinds of pollution have caused the general public to feel burnt out. The department has urged the people to wear masks and take necessary precaution if they do not go out of the house except for the necessary work to avoid the negative effects on health due to the pollution caused by it, such as eye burns and respiratory problems.

Currently, the country has a partial influence of local winds as well as western winds. In the afternoon, there is a possibility of partly cloud cover in the hilly areas of the country and thundershowers, thunderstorms or light rain in one or two places in the hilly areas of the country in the afternoon.
