Strict measures in Kathmandu Valley to prevent overcrowding

KATHMANDU: FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2021 – Strict measures will be taken to prevent crowds during the Phagu festival.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that it is preparing to stop the congestion by increasing the number of police in the main cities and markets of the country including Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had urged the people not to celebrate the festival by crowding in public places and to celebrate the festival only with family members. Additional police will be mobilized in the Kathmandu Valley to prevent crowds during the Phagu festival. Police will be deployed in Chowk.

Outside the valley, police spokesperson SSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said that they are preparing to stop the crowd by coordinating with the local municipality. The Home Ministry has also clarified that action will be taken if any crowd is found in Phagu.

The government has been urging people to adhere to public health standards as the risk of the corona virus has risen again. Holi is being celebrated on Sunday in hilly areas including Kathmandu Valley and on Monday in Terai districts.
