KATHMANDU: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, 2021 – Democrat leader Giriraj Kumari Prasai has died at the age of 90. Prasai, who was undergoing treatment at B & C Hospital in Jhapa, died last night.

Prasai, who has been active in social transformation along with politics, had contested the 2051 House of Representatives election from Jhapa Savik Constituency No. 2 with the incumbent Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Experts say she was defeated because of the party’s factional politics.

Nepali Congress District President Uddhav Thapa said that he was motivated to move ahead without deviating from the movement for democracy even after the then Panchayat government took action against his wife Sike Prasai for deportation.

According to her, the demise of a leading woman leader who was involved in the politics of loyalty has caused great loss to the Nepali Congress.

Prasai, who was active in politics along with Prasai, a warrior of democratic socialism, was born on Kartik 17, 1988 in Kumaripati, Lalitpur as the daughter of 13 children of father Captain Ganj Bahadur and mother Chandra Kumari Karki.

Prasai’s son Bivek Keshari, daughter-in-law Sangeeta, daughters Ramita and Namrata. The deceased will be buried at Kankai Mai at 1 pm today, said Thapa.
