Management of 20 metric tons of garbage from Pashupati area

KATHMANDU: After the Mahashivaratri fair, the garbage accumulated in Pashupati area has been cleaned. In the 409th week of the Bagmati Sanitation Campaign, 20 metric tons of garbage has been managed in Hansmandap of Pashupati area.

On the occasion of Mahashivaratri, food feeding, cultural programs and devotional music were organized in the Hansmandap area on 27th of Falgun. Dr. Mala Kharel, a campaigner and managing member of the empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, said that the Bagmati Sanitation Campaign has cleaned the Hansmandap area with plastic, paper plates, plastic and paper glasses, bottles and other garbage.

Campaigners have complained that the garbage dumps have not been cleaned for three days. It is said that the group doing food and other activities could not be cleaned. Chief Campaigner and former Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel, Pashupati Area Development Fund Board of Directors member Asha Pandey, Tilganga Sanitation Group, Uttarkhand of Chakrapath and Maitidevi Sanitation Group have also focused on cleaning the Pashupati area.

Maha Abhiyan had earlier cleaned the area from Suryaghat to Aryaghat in Pashupati area on 22nd of Falgun. Campaigner Kishore Singh Shahi said that the Pashupati area was cleaned on Saturday before and after Mahashivaratri as millions of devotees visit the area on Mahashivaratri.

The Bagmati Sanitation Campaign, which started on Jestha 5, 2070 BS, has been continuing even during winters, summers, rains, festivals, earthquakes, blockades and corona epidemics. After the start of the Bagmati Sanitation Campaign, various places of the river as well as its tributaries are being cleaned.

Influenced by the Maha Abhiyan, cleaning has started in the main cities and river areas of the country. Currently, more than 107 places across the country are being cleaned. During the special fair held at the temples on the banks of the Bagmati River, the cleaning campaign is centered on those temples.

Campaigners have complained that the temple management committee and local government units on the river bank are not focused on cleaning. It has been emphasized that all should be sensitive if the city, river and heritage are to be kept clean. RSS
