Female constable arrested for taking bribe

Kathmandu. A female police constable has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 1.1 million for the release of a detainee. A team of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has arrested Constable Tara Kumari Shrestha along with the cash taken as bribe.

Constable Shrestha has been arrested along with the bribe money taken to release a person in custody on the charge of customs evasion. Anish Joshi, the owner of a cafe in Chabahil has also been arrested along with her.

Constable Shrestha, who is working at the Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor, has been arrested by the authorities on the basis of information and complaint that the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office, Gauchar, Kathmandu, is demanding extra money from the service recipient.

A team deployed from the Commission’s had arrested Shrestha and Joshi along with Rs 1.1 million in cash on Sunday evening. It is said that further investigation is underway.
