Koirala’s surgery on Nobel

Biratnagar. Nepali Congress leader Rajiv Koirala has undergone surgery at Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar. Koirala, who is also the leader of the Congress parliamentary party in the No. 1 state assembly, has undergone gallstones.

A team of doctors led by Ashok Koirala successfully operated on Dr. Koirala of Nobel Hospital with laparoscopic method and removed the gallbladder and the stones there. While the leaders have been criticized for going abroad for treatment even when they are generally ill, Koirala has gone to a local hospital for surgery.

“It is more important to know where the best treatment is than where to go for treatment,” Koirala said. “There are such standard hospitals in eastern Nepal that provide good treatment.

Koirala, who is also the Nepali Congress Sunsari district president, has responded that he received good treatment in the Nobel. His health condition is normal after the operation. Koirala has returned home after being discharged from the hospital after his health improved. Due to the state-of-the-art equipment and specialist doctors, patients from different districts of Nepal and neighboring countries also come to Nobel Hospital for treatment.

At Nobel, about 25 patients undergo laparoscopic surgery daily. According to Dr. Sunil Sharma, the director of the hospital, Nobel has the highest number of laparoscopic surgeries in Nepal compared to other hospitals. For laparoscopic surgery, Nobel has designated four different operating theaters.
