Baitadi. There is a problem of overcrowding in Baitadi District Jail. There are currently 73 inmates in the 25-capacity district jail.

Jailer Anil Tiwari informed that management and security challenges have been added due to overcrowding. “As there are more prisoners, there is a challenge from the point of view of settlement and security,” he said.

There are currently 32 inmates and 41 detainees in the Jail. As there is no place to stay inside, tents have been set up in the courtyard of the Jail. “Ten people are staying in tents while the rest are accommodated in rooms,” he said. “Due to lack of room, two inmates have been provided with beds.” The building is dilapidated and there are not enough rooms.

The inmates have been complaining from time to time due to lack of proper accommodation in the district jail. Although the Jail building constructed in 2040 BS has been repaired from time to time, no rooms have been added. On the one hand, there is lack of room in the building and on the other hand, it is becoming difficult to arrange accommodation as the number of inmates is increasing. -Rassus
