Discussions among G20 finance ministers to help weak countries in economic recovery
Kathmandu. The finance ministers of the world’s top 20 industrialized nations are set to hold talks to help weaker countries recover economically.
Under the leadership of Italy, various issues created by Covid-19 will be discussed through video conference on Friday.
The meeting will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the global economy and assistance to countries struggling with vaccine shortages.
On Thursday, the US administration urged the rich G20 countries to launch a credible, organized vaccination campaign.
In an open letter to G20 finance ministers, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said without access to vaccines, especially in low-income countries, more people would die and economic recovery would be delayed.
Finance Minister Yellen also said that consideration should be given to reviving the SDRs used in the days of economic crisis in the past. Many G20 members have suggested that it should be reused.
