Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist) leader Bamdev Gautam has met CPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on the issue of party unity.

While the Prachanda-Nepal faction and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s faction were on the verge of splitting the party, Gautam, who is engaged in the CPN-Ekta campaign, reached Khumaltar and met Prachanda.

During the meeting, Gautam’s press advisor Bishwamani Subedi informed Makalu Khabar that the party leader had proposed to Prachanda to split the party and form a new party. Subedi said that although there was no discussion on how to unite the party, the party should not split and move forward as one.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to reconstitute the parliament, Gautam demanded that Prime Minister Oli and President Bidhya Devi Bhandari resign, and that Prachanda and Oli convene a secretariat meeting immediately.

Earlier, in an interview, Bamdev had said that both the chairpersons should take initiative for party unity. He argued that both the chairpersons should start the work of joining the CPN (Maoist) now that the Supreme Court has already given its verdict. However, he said that the party would take the initiative for unity through the National Unity Campaign.
