Kathmandu. At least 75 people have been killed and scores more injured in riots at three prisons in Ecuador. At least 21 people died in a prison in the western port city of Guayaquil on Tuesday, police sources said. . Similarly, 33 people died in another prison and 29 in a third prison.
Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno has accused Twitter of being behind the violence, which took place in three prisons. Moreno said police officers are working to regain control of the prison.

He further added that the army has also been deployed to assist the police in stopping the insurgency. Human rights groups have called the violence an “unprecedented genocide” and expressed concern over the lack of security in the country.

Last year, 51 people were killed in prisoner disputes. Last year, President Moreno ordered a state of emergency in prisons in an effort to control the country’s criminal gangs and reduce violence. Last December, 11 inmates were killed and seven were injured in the unrest. – (RASAS / AFP)
