Kathmandu. Saroj Khanal, the youngest son of a landlord, was born on Falgun 12, 2020. Born in Chitwan, he was the youngest child of the family and was stubborn. One day, during open defecation, he pushed a man carrying a jug from behind. He remembers that the man’s front tooth was broken.

He was obsessed with movies. He had gone to India to watch the Sholay movie after trembling the driver of his house in Chitwan. Khanal, who likes the work of a Badri Adhikari, met Badri with the help of his friend Khem Sharma. At the first meeting, Badri offered him a job. He had no intention of acting but he accepted. He got an opportunity to act in the play ‘Bhasmasurko Nali Haad’ written by Dr. Dhurva Chandra Gautam and directed by Badri. After doing two scenes of bringing tea and returning, he became fascinated with acting.

The son who was sent to become a doctor had started acting. The family was angry. When his father got angry, his expenses stopped. A young man living in Kathmandu who had no other way to earn a living. Expenses stopped coming from home. But he did not panic. He started making a living by teaching tuition. He went to sleep in Dunlop. But he did not give up.

He had made the TV movie ‘Moun Aakash’. Even given for broadcast on Nepal Television. But it was not broadcast. Sweet coincidence, when nothing happened, he returned to the stage. He was seen in the lead role in Govinda Malla the shepherd’s play ‘Chatyeako Parda’. Veteran actor Nir Shah liked his role. The then director of Nepal Television, Nir, wanted to meet Saroj. There was talk of a moun aakash. And his long-awaited serial on television got a place.

Artist Khanal has collected many such stories of struggle and success. Only recently did he get to direct his mentor Sunil Pokhrel. His directorial maturity is reflected in the short film ‘Bihani Mein Astayeko Surya’.

Happy Birthday to artist Saroj Khanal.
