Mandalay. At least two people have been killed in a shooting by security forces in Myanmar’s second-largest city on Saturday. Myanmar’s crisis management official confirmed to AFP that two people had been killed in the security operation.

“Two people were killed and at least 30 were injured when gunmen opened fire on a crowd of protesters Hlaing Min Oo, head of the Mandalay-based volunteer emergency rescue team, said.

Witnesses said most of the injured were shot directly by police. One of the dead was a teenager who was shot in the head, Oo said.

Another volunteer rescuer confirmed the death toll had reached two by the time the news broke. In Myanmar, a military cou led to the overthrow of an elected government a few weeks ago.
