Trump acquitted for second time
Kathmandu. Former US President Donald Trump has been acquitted for the second time. Former President Trump has been acquitted after failing to reach a two-thirds majority in the Senate.
In the Senate, 57 votes were cast in favor of the impeachment and 43 against. Trump needed 67 votes in the Senate to win a two-thirds majority. That would require the votes of 17 Republicans.
But Trump was acquitted because only seven Republican lawmakers voted in favor of the impeachment. A second indictment has been filed against former President Trump for allegedly inciting a violent riot in the US House of Commons that killed five people on January 6.
He is the first president in US history to be indicted twice, but both times he was acquitted. Earlier, in December 2019, the lower house passed a motion to impeach Trump on other charges, but the Senate cleared him in February 2020. – Agency
