The Covid epidemic completely shut down 10 percent of the industry

Kathmandu. Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, 10.81 percent of the industries operating in Nepal have been found to be completely shut down. This is shown in the study report on ‘Impact of Covid-19 on the Industrial Sector’ made public by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

According to the study report, 89.19 percent of the industries are partially operational. No industry has come into full operation during and after the lockdown for epidemic control. The number of small and cottage industries that are completely closed is 75 percent.

The production capacity of the industry has also declined significantly. 54 percent of the industries have produced only 50 percent of the capacity. Similarly, 32.43 industries have produced only 25 percent of the capacity. Similarly, the production capacity of 23.52 percent small scale industries has decreased by 75 percent. Covid has the biggest problem in marketing or selling goods produced by the industry.

According to the study, most small scale industry workers have lost their lives. Similarly, workers in small, medium and large industries have lost their jobs.

Affected industries have demanded special touches on interest rates to keep the industry afloat. Similarly, they have demanded concessional rate loan, tax exemption, electricity demand fee should be fixed on the basis of production, loan repayment period should be extended, VAT refund, house rent exemption, electricity tariff rate exemption, workers’ wages should not be increased for at least two years.

The ministry has stated that it has studied the sample by collecting data from 37 industries of all classes from 17 Kartik to 16 Mangshir 2077 BS.
