If convicted, Jhankri could face up to seven years in prison
Kathmandu. Police have arrested CPN (Maoist) leader Ram Kumari Jhankri. Jhankri was arrested by the police under Section 58 of the Anti-Corruption Act.
If convicted, she could face up to seven years in prison or a Rs. 70,000 fine, or both. The clause provides for five stages of the offense of threatening or intimidating or pressuring the President or Parliament with or without force. There is a provision of imprisonment for 7 years or Rs. 70,000 or both if found guilty in the first phase.
It is mentioned that if the guilt of the second phase is confirmed, the basis of 4 years imprisonment will be fixed. A team from the Metropolitan Police Complex arrested Jhankri from her residence in Shankhamul on Thursday on charges of insulting the President.
