Kathmandu. The Department of Immigration has proposed an amendment to the procedure for women traveling abroad alone.

The department has sent a proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs to amend the visit visa provision of the Immigration Procedure 2065.

According to the new procedure, when women under the age of 40 go abroad alone, the consent of the ward office and family is now mandatory. The department has stated that the procedure has been proposed keeping in view the increase in human trafficking, exploitation, inability to rescue if there is a problem, and recovery without medical treatment.

The department has sent a proposal to amend the procedure to the Ministry of Home Affairs three days ago. Tek Narayan Poudel, information officer of the department, said that the procedure will be implemented soon after the necessary discussions in the law branch of the home.

Similarly, non-life accident insurance of up to Rs 15 lakh should be made mandatory for women going abroad. Now visa, passport, two way ticket, hotel booking etc. were mandatory for women.

Women under the age of 40 traveling with family members or husbands not needed to have the recommendation of the municipality and insurance is not mandatory.
