Butwal. It has been alleged that the ward chairperson of Devdaha Municipality-10 of Rupandehi has beaten three youths after consuming alcohol. A complaint has been lodged at the Ward Police Office, Ramnagar alleging that Ward Chairman Yak Bahadur Sunar had beaten up three youths who were returning from a drinking water jar at Charange of Devadaha last night. The victims have lodged a complaint with the police alleging that they were beaten while leaving a jar of drinking water in a white pickup truck (Lu 1 Ja 3336) under construction.

Suklam Shrestha, Ashish Rana Magar and Rajesh Baraghare, who had been working under the contract of Devadaha Drinking Water, were returning after selling drinking water. He said that Rajesh Baraghare was injured in the nose due to the beating. Magar lamented that the ward president, who had consumed alcohol, had shown his grandfatherhood as if it was his area. “If there is any damage to the vehicle, we can take legal action accordingly,” he said. Even before this, ward chairperson Sunar has repeatedly come into controversy. According to the local youths, he sometimes attacked the local youths and sometimes even got into a dispute over riverine materials.

Govinda Regmi, a police inspector at the ward police office, Ramnagar, told Global Voice that the youths had filed a complaint alleging that they had been beaten and mistreated. “We have called both the parties for a discussion. We have called Chairman and told him that we will meet tomorrow as there is a meeting of the municipality today,” said Regmi. Ward chairperson Sunar was called for comment but did not answer.
