Uttarakhand floods: Death toll rises to 15, with 150 still missing

Kathmandu. The death toll from a flash flood in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, India has risen to 15. The Dhauliganga, Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda rivers were flooded on Sunday morning when the glaciers burst.

At least 15 people have been killed in the floods, according to Indian media. Similarly, at least 150 people are still without contact.

Those trapped in the tunnel near Tapovan Dam are being rescued. According to Indian media, 16 people were rescued on Sunday.

With more than 150 people still missing, the death toll could rise, the local administration said.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the Indian Air Force have stepped up rescue and search operations.

Border Police has also deployed trained dogs in the tunnel of Tapovan area. A team of dogs has been deployed to search for the workers trapped in the tunnel.
