Kathmandu. US President Joe Biden has warned against re-imposing sanctions on Myanmar. He condemned the army’s seizure of power and warned of re-imposition of sanctions.

He also said that the international community should be united to restore democracy in Myanmar. The United States has lifted sanctions over Myanmar’s democracy over the past decade.

The military on Monday declared a state of emergency in the country, arresting civilian leaders, including President and leader Aung San Suu Kyi. It has been condemned by the United Nations, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The UN secretary-general has called the army’s move a “serious blow” to democratic reform. The United Nations has demanded the release of at least 45 detainees.

The UK’s prime minister has called Suu Kyi’s arrest illegal. EU leaders have also condemned the move. China urges all parties to resolve their differences. BBC
