Kathmandu. Bird flu has been seen in Kathmandu. Bird flu has been found in turkeys and ducks reared by local farmers of Sanglekhola, Futung, Ward No. 7 of Tarkeshwor Municipality.

According to the Department of Veterinary Services, the samples brought after the death of turkeys and chickens were tested at the Central Veterinary Diseases Research Laboratory using real-time PCR methods and confirmed bird flu. About 2350 domestic birds have been destroyed in the affected areas to prevent the spread of the disease.

In this process, 1,865 ducks, 622 quail, 32 chickens, 25 turkeys, 542 eggs and 75 kg grains have been destroyed. The department has said that the affected areas have been completely disinfected. The department has also stated that the agencies concerned with the prevention and control of the disease have been kept on alert keeping in view the risk of bird flu in Nepal.

1. When transporting poultry and poultry products, it is mandatory to have a health check-up and a veterinary certificate only
