Remembering those who sacrificed their lives for democracy
Kathmandu. Martyr’s Day is being celebrated across the country today in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the interest and rights of the country and the people.
Martyr’s Day is being celebrated every year in memory of the heroic grandsons who sacrificed their lives in the democratic revolution and democratic people’s movements against the Jahaniya Rana rule, autocratic Panchayat system and dictatorial monarchy to make the Nepali people sovereign citizens.
Martyr’s Day is celebrated with the contribution of heroic martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Ganga Lal Shrestha’s struggling lives and sacrifices and the contribution of other warriors of the democratic movement.
Martyrs’ Week is being celebrated every year from 10 to 16 Magh in the memory of the heroic martyr who sacrificed his life against the autocratic Jahaniya Rana regime. The 16th of Magh is celebrated as Martyr’s Day by evaluating and highly appreciating the courage and sacrifice of the martyrs who were martyred for the nation by participating in the movements at different times of the country.
Shukraraj, who had established the Nepal Praja Parishad against the autocratic Rana regime on Magh 10, 1997 and inspired the people to make a revolution for their rights, was hanged on a Khari tree in Teku. Similarly, a devotee was hanged in Sifal on Magh 13 of the same year while Dasharath Chand and Ganga Lal were shot dead in Shobha Bhagwati on Magh 15 of the same year.
