The Election Commission did not recognize the split of the CPN (Maoist)
Kathmandu. The Election Commission has refused to recognize the ruling CPN (Maoist) as divided. The meeting held on Sunday decided to reject the demands of both the parties.
The commission has concluded that the decisions taken by the Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli and another chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal’s party in different ways are not in line with the party’s constitution. Although both sides claimed to be authoritative, the commission’s decision was not recognized by both sides.
Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha informed that the meeting decided to inform the chairpersons Oli and Prachanda about the details. He said, “According to the demands of both the parties, the records could not be amended, changed or manipulated.” Now, the two CPN (Maoist) chairpersons Oli and Dahal will be in the record of the commission.
With the decision of Prime Minister Oli to dissolve the House of Representatives and go for mid-term elections on January 20, the ruling party CPN (Maoist) has reached a climax and the party is practically divided. With the dissolution, the divided CPN (Maoist) chairperson’s party has expanded the 441-member central committee to 1,100 members. The Oli faction had removed Chairman Prachanda from the post of executive chairman.
Similarly, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda-Nepal faction of the CPN (Maoist) had removed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the post and made Madhav Kumar Nepal the party president. After the split, both the parties had launched a campaign to expel each other and informed the Election Commission in writing about the changes in the party.
