Damage of more than Rs. 1000 crore due to fire at Siram Institute
Agency. The fire at the Siram Institute of India (SII) on Thursday caused a loss of more than Rs 1,000 crore, according to the company.
The company’s chief executive officer (CEO) Adar Punawala said the fire had caused more than Rs 1,000 crore in damage, according to Reuters. “More than Rs 1,000 crore has been lost due to the fire in the Pune-based company on Thursday,” said CEO Punawala.
CEO Punawala also said that the fire would not affect the supply of vaccines against the corona virus. Punawala said, “Corona vaccine production will not be affected. We make many medicines in the company. But the supply of BCG vaccine may be affected. This incident has taken a heavy toll on us. ”
The fire also killed five employees of the company. SII, in collaboration with Oxford University and AstraZeneca, is developing a covishield vaccine against corona.
The Government of India has provided one million doses of covishield vaccine made by the company to the Government of Nepal. SII is the world’s largest vaccine maker by number of doses.
