Dynamite blast kills at least 8

Kathmandu. Eight people have been killed when a dynamite exploded in Shivamogga in the Indian state of Karnataka. The blast at the railway crusher site at around 10:30 local time was felt in the surrounding area.

The blast ripped through a nearby road and shattered the windows of some houses, according to the Indian daily Dainik Bhaskar. People even called the seismological center to see if there was an earthquake.

The dead included workers transporting dynamite in a truck. The blast site is 350 km from the provincial capital Bangalore. Shivamogga district is the home district of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. The cause of the blast was not immediately clear.
