100 million Hero bikes in 37 years
Kathmandu. Indian company Hero MotoCorp, which has been producing motorcycles, has succeeded in producing 100 million units of Hero motorcycles. In the 37 years since its inception, the company has managed to produce that number of motorcycles. Founded in 1984, the company had produced one million bikes by 2095. Then by 2001 it was 5 million, by 2004 it was 10 million and by 2013 it was 50 million bikes. In 2017, the company had produced 75 million bikes.
On Thursday, the company achieved the success of ‘Hero Motorcorp 100 Million Achievement’, i.e. 100 million units of motorcycles. The company has entered the ‘Iconic Landmark’ since Thursday by producing 100 million motorcycles.
On the same occasion, the company has also unveiled new versions of bikes including Splendor Plus, Extreme 160R, Glamor 125, Destiny 125 and Maestro Edge 110. Out of the various segments being produced by the company, the premium bike Hero Extreme 160R produced at the Haridwar plant in Uttarakhand, India has reached 100 million.
The new version of the motorcycle will start selling from next month. Chairman of the company Pawan Munjal and famous Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan have made the bikes public.
The company has stated that it is producing bikes in three plants including Nimrana, Gurugram and Haridwar. “We all have the character of a hero,” said Munjal, chairman of the company, at a virtual event on Thursday.
Founded on January 19, 1994, the company was known as Hero Honda. The company had been collaborating with Honda to sell and distribute its products in the Indian market. Hero MotoCorp was formed in 2011 after the two companies split.
“For the past five years, we have been planning to expand our platform to 40 countries outside India,” Munjal said. The company has set a new target of launching 10 different and modified versions of the product every year in the next five years.
