KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO), Dhanusha, has classified 194 polling stations in Janakpur as highly sensitive in view of the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Out of 322 polling stations across the district, 194 have been marked highly sensitive, 106 sensitive, and 22 normal, according to the DAO.

Dhanusha has a total of 645 polling centres.

Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel said the classification was based on factors including the open Nepal–India border, large voter numbers, and security challenges witnessed during past elections.

He added that 10 to 12 security personnel will be deployed at each polling centre to ensure a safe and peaceful voting process.

A joint security team led by the Chief District Officer, with the participation of all security chiefs, has been conducting inspections of highly sensitive polling stations, including those located along the Nepal–India border, Luintel said.

According to the Madhesh Province Election Office, Dhanusha’s four constituencies have a total of 514,571 voters.

Of them, 276,126 are men, 238,435 women, and 10 voters belong to sexual and gender minorities.

Around 6,500 election staff will be deployed for the election, with the final details of personnel currently being compiled.

For the House of Representatives election, 142 candidates are contesting across Dhanusha’s four constituencies: 34 candidates in Constituency No. 2, 45 in Constituency No. 3, and 37 in Constituency No. 4.
