KATHMANDU: 19 newly elected MPs of the National Assembly took oath today.

Urmila Aryal, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Members of Parliament in a ceremony held at Lahotse Hall, Federal Parliament Building.

Just a day before, a farewell was bid to 20 Members of Parliament, including Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, upon completing their 6-year term, while welcoming the new members.

Among the 20 vacant positions, 19 were filled in the election held on Magh 11 (Jan 25).

The appointment of one individual is pending, awaiting the President’s approval on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Following the election of the 19 members, the Maoist Center emerged as the leading party in the National Assembly.

Rukmini Koirala, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Pooja Chaudhary, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Vishnudevi Pudasaini, Jitjung Basnet, Manrupa Sharma, Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Kiran Babu Shrestha, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, Jhakkuprasad Subedi, Savitri Malla, Vishnu Bahadur Vishwakarma, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Renu Chand, Narayana Dutta Bhatta and Baldev Bohara took an oath.
