1,841 drivers fined in Kathmandu in 24 hours

KATHMANDU: Traffic Police in the Kathmandu Valley took action against 1,841 drivers within the past 24 hours during intensified roadside checks, collecting a total revenue of Rs 479,501 in fines.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police and Valley Traffic Police Chief Nawaraj Adhikari, the enforcement drive targeted multiple traffic violations across different locations in the valley.

Among those penalized were:

  • 107 drivers for drunk driving (MADAS / alcohol consumption)
  • 192 for ride-sharing violations
  • 183 for red-light jumping
  • 126 for speeding
  • 41 for lane discipline violations
  • 75 for driving on sidewalks
  • 149 for unnecessary honking
  • 77 for one-way violations
  • 891 for other miscellaneous traffic offences

Adhikari stated that strict action has been taken against violators, emphasizing that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a punishable offence under the law.

The traffic police have also urged passengers and the public to report suspected drunk drivers to the nearest police office or via the Traffic Control Room hotline 103 and Police hotline 100.
