Monsoon disasters claim 134 lives, thousands displaced

KATHMANDU: Since June 10, a total of 134 fatalities have been reported due to various disaster-related incidents including floods and landslides as of Thursday.

According to Dan Bahadur Karki, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police and spokesperson, the breakdown of deaths is as follows: two in the Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi State, six in Madhesh State, 25 in Bagmati State, and 38 in Gandaki State.

Additionally, 23 deaths occurred in Lumbini State, eight in Karnali State, and 10 in Sudurpaschim State.

Karki also reported that 148 people sustained injuries: nine in the Kathmandu Valley, 34 in Koshi State, nine each in Madhesh, Lumbini, and Bagmati States, 29 in Gandaki State, 35 in Karnali State, and 14 in Sudurpaschim State.

As of now, seven individuals remain missing, with search efforts ongoing in the affected areas.

During this period, a total of 4,030 families have been displaced due to the monsoon-related disasters, according to information provided by Karki.
