Huawei Nepal & UNESCO host workshop on AI & ethics to empower youth

KATHMANDU: Huawei, in collaboration with UNESCO, organized a Workshop on AI and Ethics at the UN Office in Pulchowk Lalitpur on Tuesday.

This event, held as part of Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program, brought together 30 shortlisted students from an impressive pool of
over 300 applicants, alongside representatives from UNESCO and Huawei Nepal.

The workshop engaged participants in discussions on AI ethics to enhance their understanding and promote responsible AI development.

Participants engaged in insightful discussions and practical sessions. Focusing on the responsible development and societal impacts of AI technologies.

The sessions included group discussions and exercises aimed at fostering dialogue on AI ethics in Nepal. The discussions also covered ways to ensure AI technologies are accessible, inclusive, gender balanced and beneficial.

Since its inception in 2008, "Seeds for the Future” has trained over 18,000 students from 140 countries, collaborating with 500+ universities and receiving endorsements from 360+ senior officials.

Following the workshop, a final competition will select top students for further training and participation in China. The final selection will be made by a panel of judges on 01 July 2024.

Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship program dedicated to nurturing young talents globally in digital technology.

It offers
participants opportunities for short-term trainings, global competitions, and ongoing alumni activities, emphasizing industry innovation and cross-cultural exchange.
