KATHMANDU: In the first match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated the USA by 18 runs.

Chasing a target of 195 runs, the USA could only manage 176 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Harmit Singh scored 38 runs, Steven Taylor added 24 runs, and Corey Anderson contributed 12 runs. None of the other batsmen could reach double figures.

In the bowling department, Kagiso Rabada took three wickets, while Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, and Tabraiz Shamsi each claimed one wicket.

Earlier, having lost the toss and being put to bat first, South Africa posted a total of 194 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs.

Opener Quinton de Kock played an aggressive innings, scoring 74 runs off 40 balls with seven fours and five sixes.

Captain Aiden Markram added 46 runs, Heinrich Klaasen scored 36, Tristan Stubbs made 20, and Reeza Hendricks contributed 11 runs.

For the United States, Saurabh Netravalkar and Harmit Singh each took two wickets.
