Another suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Birman in Patan

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested another individual in connection with the murder of 45-year-old Birman Bista from Patan Municipality-6 in Baitadi.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Aashish Pahari from Patan-6, was apprehended while attempting to flee in the Kuapani forest of Patan-5, according to police spokesperson and Senior Sub-Inspector Bhupal Thapa.

The victim’s relatives had filed a formal complaint against five individuals, all of whom have now been arrested and are under investigation.

Previously, the police had arrested 36-year-old Bhagawati Bista from Patan-6, Rajendra Bhattarai and Kishor Bhattarai from Patan-1, and Bharat Mohan Bista from Patan-6 in connection with the murder.

The District Court has extended the detention of these suspects for an additional five days to facilitate further investigation.

Birman Bista, who had been missing since Saturday, June 15, was found dead in Ghangal River, Patan-6, on Monday afternoon.

Bhagawati Bista has confessed to the police that she killed Birman by striking him with a wooden plank.

Bhagawati is a teacher at Sahastralinga Basic School, while the deceased, Birman Bista, was a truck driver.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear, according to police reports.
