KATHMANDU: Employees of the Federal Parliament Secretariat have staged protests within the parliament premises.

On Tuesday, they staged a sit-in protest inside the parliament building, blocking access by chaining the gates, to fulfill their demands.

They have demanded timely revisions to the salaries of parliamentary officials and members, in accordance with their respective ranks, and also urged for adjustments in the functioning of committee and sub-committee meetings to make them more convenient.

Additionally, they have demanded the provision of extra incentive allowances for overtime work. Despite previous meetings held by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, and the Chair of the National Assembly, Narayan Dahal, to address the employees’ grievances, a consensus could not be reached.
