KATHMANDU: Kawad Business Struggle Committee staged a protest against Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Sunday.
The protest was organized against the decision of KMC to remove the Kawadi from within the Ring Road.
Ramkewal Gupta, the coordinator of the Kawadi Business Struggle Committee, stated that the Metropolitan City disobeyed the court order to not cause damage to the homes of Kawadi entrepreneurs and to not dismantle the structures they had built. He mentioned that legal action would be taken against the Metropolitan City for defying the court order.
Saroj Shrestha, coordinator of the Struggle Committee, accused registered Kawadi entrepreneurs conducting businesses within KMC of extortion, increasing incidents of arson, and escalating thefts.
He also claimed that various wards within KMC had sent letters to remove the Kawadi.
According to the law, he emphasized that registered entrepreneurs, who pay taxes to the government, should be allowed to conduct business freely without obstruction.
They stated that while they were ready to abide by the city’s decision and relocate their businesses within the specified criteria, they would not accept the prohibition of their businesses altogether.
