KATHMANDU: England has kept its hopes of reaching the Super 8 alive in the ICC T20 World Cup by securing a historic 8-wicket victory over Oman in just 3.1 overs.

In the match held on Friday morning, England chased down Oman’s target of 48 runs with the loss of two wickets in what is now a record win in World Cup history.

Chasing Oman’s target of 48 runs, England captain Jos Buttler remained unbeaten, scoring 24 runs off 8 balls, including four fours and one six.

Phil Salt, who hit a six off the first two balls, scored 12 runs off 3 balls before getting out. Will Jacks faced 7 balls and added 5 runs, while Jonny Bairstow remained not out with 8 runs.

Batting first, Oman was all out for 47 runs in 13.2 overs. Apart from Shoaib Khan, who scored 11 runs off 23 balls, no other batsman could reach double figures.

For England, Adil Rashid bowled 4 overs, conceding 11 runs and taking 4 wickets. Jofra Archer and Mark Wood both took three wickets each, conceding 12 runs each.

This win marks England’s first victory in Group C. With an improved net run rate, England now has 3 points.

To advance to the Super 8, England must defeat Namibia in their next match and hope that second-placed Scotland, with 5 points, loses to top-placed Australia, who has already qualified for the Super 8.

Namibia, currently in third place, has 2 points from three matches. Oman, having played their final group stage match, exits the World Cup without any points.
