KATHMANDU: Australia storms into the Super Eight of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Namibia. In a game held at the Richards Bay Stadium, Australia secured victory over Namibia by nine wickets to advance to the Super Eight stage of the World Cup. Placed in Group B, Australia clinched their third consecutive win, previously defeating Oman by 39 runs and England by 36 runs.

According to international media outlets, Namibia set a modest target of 73 runs for victory, which Australia achieved with ease, losing just one wicket in five overs. Travis Head contributed the most for Australia with an unbeaten 34 runs, including five boundaries and two sixes in his 17-ball innings. Additionally, David Warner scored 20 runs while Captain Mitchell Marsh added 18 runs before Namibia’s David Wiese claimed a wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being put into bat first, Namibia bundled out for 72 runs in 17 overs, losing all their wickets. Captain Gerhard Erasmus top-scored for Namibia with 36 runs off 43 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Apart from Michael van Lingen’s contribution of 10 runs, no other player managed to reach double figures.

In Group B, Australia leads with three wins in three matches, securing the top spot with six points. Meanwhile, Scotland sits in second place in the same group with two wins and one tie, accumulating five points. Namibia holds the third position with one win and two losses, earning two points, while England is in fourth place with one point from two matches. Oman exits the World Cup without a win in three matches.

The provision for the top two teams from each group to advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament remains intact.
