KATHMANDU: Pakistan clinched their first victory in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday night, defeating Canada by 7 wickets in a Group A match.

Chasing a target of 107 runs, Pakistan reached the target in 17.3 overs with the loss of 3 wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam laid the foundation for the win with a crucial partnership for the second wicket.

The duo’s partnership was broken after adding 63 runs off 62 balls when Babar got out.

Captain Babar scored 33 runs off 33 balls, hitting 1 four and 1 six. Rizwan was the top scorer for the team with 53 runs off 53 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six.

Earlier, Aaron Johnson’s half-century helped Canada set a total of 106 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Johnson batted brilliantly, scoring 52 runs off 44 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes at the low-scoring Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Kaleem Sana contributed 13 runs off 14 balls, and captain Saad Bin Zafar added 10 runs off 21 balls.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir took 2 wickets each, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah claimed 1 wicket each.
