KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced former judge Bhuwan Giri to seven years in prison for rape.

On Tuesday, Judge Durgabahadur Bhusal of the Kathmandu District Court found Giri guilty of having non-consensual physical relations with his ex-wife and handed down the sentence.

Giri was found guilty of rape by the Kathmandu District Court on May 26.

Based on this verdict, he has been sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay compensation of 300,000 rupees.

The rape charge against Giri was filed while he was serving at the Kapilvastu District Court.

He has been in custody since the previous court decision.
