KATHMANDU: The possibility of extreme heat has been observed in the mid and western parts of the Terai region, urging necessary preparations and caution.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has reported that some areas of the Terai region under the Sudurpashchim and Lumbini States have experienced maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher for several days.

The Division released a special bulletin today regarding the heatwave and hot wind phenomena, advising necessary precautions for the affected areas from June 11–13.

Precautions such as staying indoors, avoiding exposure to the outside environment, wearing light clothing, staying hydrated, and covering the head with a hat or cap are suggested to mitigate the effects of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, excessive sweating, dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, and fainting are likely to occur due to the hot winds and heatwave.

To prevent such conditions, it is recommended to stay indoors during peak heat hours, keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water and juices, and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.

The Division also recommends using light-colored curtains, applying sunscreen when going outside, and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

Additionally, regular consumption of water and liquid-based foods (such as juices and soups) is advised to stay hydrated and healthy during this period.
