KATHMANDU: Eleven mules, stuck in the middle of a suspension bridge over the Karnali River, were successfully rescued, while unfortunately, two mules died during the operation.

The incident occurred when thirteen mules became ensnared in the bridge’s middle section due to loosened mesh.

This suspension bridge connects Panchadeval Binayak Municipality-9 Kalekanda in Achham with Aathbis Municipality-6 Khidkijyula in Dailekh. Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Pathak of Achham informed that the mules were trapped until they were rescued by cutting through the bridge’s mesh.

“Two mules dies during the rescue operation,” Pathak stated. “The remaining mules were safely rescued with the assistance of a boat.”

The lattice on the right side of the bridge was hanging precariously, contributing to the animals’ entrapment upon entering the netting.

Significant damage was evident on the right side of the bridge, which appeared bent.

A collaborative effort involving Gorakh Bucks, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents was instrumental in executing the rescue operation.
