Phunjo Lama sets new record: Everest summit in under 15 hours

KATHMANDU: Phunjo Jhangmu Lama, a Nepali mountaineer hailing from Gorkha district, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new record for the fastest female ascent of Mount Everest, completing the climb in under 15 hours.
Phunjo reached the summit at 6:23 a.m. on Thursday, establishing a new benchmark for the swiftest ascent by a female climber.
According to Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Tourism Department’s Temporary Field Office, Phunjo commenced her journey from Everest Base Camp at 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday and reached the peak in 14 hours and 31 minutes.
This extraordinary accomplishment surpasses her previous record set in 2018 when she scaled Mount Everest in 39 hours and 6 minutes.
