KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited the Lumbini area on the occasion of the 2568th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day and interacted with locals.

During the programs organized for Buddha Jayanti, the Prime Minister, who reached in Lumbini on Wednesday, observed the Lumbini area in the morning.

He also interacted with domestic and foreign Buddhist practitioners, including spiritual leaders who came to Lumbini for yoga and meditation.

Buddha Jayanti, the day celebrating the birth of Buddha, is observed every year on the full moon day of the month of Baishakh.

It commemorates the contribution of Siddhartha Gautam towards establishing world peace. Siddhartha Gautam’s birth, enlightenment, and attainment of Mahaparinirvana (death) all occurred on the same day of Baishakh Shukla Purnima, hence this day holds significant importance for Buddhists around the world, including in Nepal.

On the occasion of Buddha Jayanti and other related festivals, Buddhists express profound reverence and devotion towards Buddha.

In recognition of this, the government has declared today as a public holiday.
