KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has clarified that it cannot comment on cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s case, citing U.S. laws that mandate the confidentiality of visa-related records.

This statement came after it was revealed that Lamichhane’s visa application for the T20 Cricket World Cup was denied.

In a response issued on Wednesday, the embassy expressed its excitement about the Nepalese team’s participation in the T20 World Cup in the United States.

In line with this, several embassy officials had met with the team a few weeks ago to commend and encourage them prior to their departure.

The embassy also stated that it has been working collaboratively with other U.S. consular posts worldwide to ensure that members of national cricket teams eligible for the appropriate visa category can travel to the United States in a timely manner to compete in the World Cup.
