Lightning strikes killed 12 in West Bengal

KATHMANDU: At least 12 individuals tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries on Thursday as lightning struck India’s eastern state of West Bengal.

The incidents occurred primarily in Malda district, situated approximately 327 kilometers north of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.

Reports from officials indicated that all the victims were caught outdoors, engaged in various activities such as working in orchards or fields when the lightning strikes occurred.

These unfortunate events underscore a recurring challenge faced during the onset of the monsoon season in India, where hundreds of lives are lost annually due to lightning strikes.
